LA QUINTA, CA, December 7, 2010 /High School PR News/ -- Sheri L. Forney-Tucker, Department Program Manager and Lead Instructor for the Culinary Arts Institute of La Quinta High School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in culinary education.

With six years of experience as the department program manager for the Culinary Arts Institute of La Quinta High School, Ms. Forney-Tucker is a teacher and mentor for past and present students as well as community members throughout the Coachella Valley. She became involved in her profession after serving the business community and foodservice and hospitality industry for 17 years as a commercial energy specialist. Ms. Forney-Tucker made the transition to education when she recognized the need for career and technical education among high school students. She attributes her success to the work ethic she observed at home while growing up in Lake Arrowhead, California, to the determination to be a positive role model to her son and her students, to a desire to approach every challenge in life as a great adventure and to using her gifts and talents to strive for excellence.

Ms. Forney-Tucker received a Master of Education and a California State Teaching Credential from Azusa Pacific University in 2004. In 2010, Ms. Forney-Tucker earned her Preliminary Administrative Services Credential and plans to work toward increasing the availability of career and technical education courses in high schools and community colleges. In addition to her formal education, she was awarded the "Outstanding Alumni Award" in 2009 by College of the Desert, Palm Desert, California. She is co-chair of the California Partnership for Achieving Student Success (Cal-PASS) inaugural Career and Technical Education Professional Learning Council. She is an active member of the National and California Restaurant Associations and was accepted for participation in the 2009 Coachella Valley Economic Partnership (CVEP) Career Pathways Faculty Externship Program.

Ms. Forney-Tucker has one son, Petty Officer 3rd Class Joseph D. Tucker, United States Navy. Ms. Forney-Tucker, along with Joseph and his wife of two years, Candace, is expecting her first grandchild in June, 2011.
