Milton Beresford Francis is pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Technology through Walden University

Bronx, NY, October 13, 2010 /High School PR News/ -- Milton Beresford Francis, Mathematics Teacher and Technology Coordinator with the New York City Department of Education, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in educational instruction.

Countless students have Milton Beresford Francis to thank for their math, business, economics and technology education. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Mr. Francis attended the All Saints Infant (Basic) School at the age of three, before moving on to All Saints Primary School (later became known as All Saints All-Age School) at age 6. Having earned his primary (elementary) education in five years, instead of the expected six, he gained entry to high school having being successful in the highly competitive Common Entrance Examination for Grade 6 students. This examination took him to Jamaica's prestigious all boys' high school (Kingston College). After successfully leaving high school at the age of 18, the government recruited him in its National Youth Service Program where he was placed in the education system as an assistant teacher, where he assisted a mathematics instructor teach Grades 10 and 11 mathematics to students who were either his age or older. At the end of the year, the teacher encouraged Mr. Francis to become a teacher.

At the age of 20, Mr. Francis attended Church Teachers' College in Mandeville, Jamaica, for three years, where he specialized in teaching Mathematics and General Science to high school students. Upon graduation, he received his first job as a College Trained Teacher at Ardenne, a prominent high school in the Kingston metropolitan area. He taught mathematics at that school for two years before transferring to St. Andrew Technical, a prominent technical high school in the same area. Having gained five years of teaching experience at that school coupled with four years of advising students in a business entrepreneurial club sponsored by the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce at the school, he decided to further his education at the University of the West Indies, where he completed a two-year certificate in Business Studies followed by a one-year Diploma in Education in the Teaching of Mathematics. He then took a job at his high school alma mater, KC, to teach mathematics at both the lower and advanced levels. While teaching here, he continued his studies part-time at the university where he received a three-year undergraduate business degree specializing in management studies. After obtaining this degree, the Chamber of Commerce employed Mr. Francis as the National Director for the Business Entrepreneurial Club, which was administered in high schools. He spent four years with them, while continuing his university education and completing 12 of the 16 courses required to receive an MBA. Mr. Francis was then offered a position as a Vice Principal at Meadowbrook, another prominent high school, in Kingston. He served in this position for two years before migrating to the United States to work with the New York City Department of Education. He has been teaching mathematics to grades 10, 11 and 12 for nine years. Since his arrival in the states, he has earned a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from New York Institute of Technology. Mr. Francis is a member of the American Federation of Teachers, and is listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers. Looking ahead, he hopes to write technology textbooks.
