Carol M. Andersen Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Language Instruction

Carol M. Andersen specializes in preparing students to function in a global society

    WESTMINSTER, CO, October 15, 2010 /High School PR News/ --Carol M. Andersen, Teacher at Global Village Academy and Arvada West High School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in language instruction.

A 30-year veteran of the field of education, Carol M. Andersen specializes in preparing students to function in a global society. She recently marked her first year with Global Village Academy, a leading-edge K-8 charter school that emphasizes global literacy and language immersion in Mandarin Chinese, French and Spanish. Noted for her expertise in Spanish and English, Ms. Andersen is charged with teaching English as a Second Language to first- through seventh-grade students and conducting an intensive two-hour Spanish class for seventh graders. In addition, Ms. Andersen teaches high school Spanish, levels one and three at Arvada West High School in Arvada, Colorado.

Inspired by her grandmother, who was a teacher, Ms. Andersen began her teaching career in Michigan and Colorado. She also dabbled in translation, interpretation and tutoring prior to entering the corporate world. After two decades there, she realized that her heart really lay in education and returned to the classroom in 2001. Ms. Andersen takes pride in her association with Global Village Academy and derives deep personal satisfaction from challenging her pupils to become world-class thinkers who are capable of developing ideas using multiple languages and perspectives. She attributes her success to her perseverance and thirst for knowledge, as well as to the encouragement and support of her parents, who instilled in her the value of education.

Ms. Andersen is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in education, with a concentration in curriculum, instruction and assessment, at Walden University. She holds a master of science in Spanish and secondary education from Adrian College and a bachelor of science in Spanish and mathematics education from Central Michigan University. A licensed teacher in the state of Colorado, she holds a certification in secondary Spanish and has completed a training programs in Systematic English Language Development and Sheltered Instruction Observational Protocol. Her professional affiliations include the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, the Order of the Eastern Star, and Kappa Delta Pi. Ms. Andersen aspires to become a university professor within the next five years.
