De Anza NSDAR Announces History Contest With $100 Cash Award

The De Anza Chapter of the National Society of the Daughter of the American Revolution announces the launch of its nationally recognized American History Essay Contest for the 2010-2011 academic year

RANCHO SANTA FE, CA, September 11, 2010 /High School PR News/ -- The De Anza Chapter of the National Society of the Daughter of the American Revolution, NSDAR, announces the launch of its prestigious, nationally recognized American History Essay Contest for the 2010-2011 academic year. All 5-8-grade students are invited to celebrate America's history by completing essays on a historically significant topic relating to an American milestone. The contest is being co-chaired by Debbie Giese and Joanne Dudek from the De Anza NSDAR.

Since 1957, schools across the nation have participated in this annual event and the essay topic this year is "The Memoirs of Paul Revere". In celebration of the 235th anniversary of Paul Revere's "Midnight ride" from Boston to Lexington, the students are to imagine they are the famous American patriot Paul Revere who is writing his memoirs. This includes various accomplishments for which Paul Revere wishes to be remembered in the annals of American History.

The top local winner from each grade will receive a certificate, a medal and a $100 cash award from the De Anza NSDAR Chapter and an opportunity to advance in the State and National awards. In previous years, finalists from San Diego County schools have been selected as District and State winners and all local students have the potential to become a National Winner in this year's contest.

Students from grades 5 through 8 are eligible to participate and 48 public and private schools have been invited to compete. The deadline for school's to register is September 17, 2010 and the Essay submission deadline is between October 16 - 29, 2010. The mission of the De Anza Chapter of the NSDAR is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence, to promote knowledge of American history, to conduct genealogical research and to cherish, maintain and perpetuate American freedom, liberty and patriotism.
