William T. Sumerel Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who

William T. Sumerel honored for 14 years of demonstrated dedication to academic advisement

    GREER, SC, October 5, 2009 /High School PR News/ -- William T. Sumerel, M.Ed., Guidance Counselor at Riverside High School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in academic advisement.

William T. Sumerel has 14 years of professional experience and specializes in the provision of academic advisement including student support, career development and counseling. In his position at Riverside High School, he is tasked with assisting students in personal and academic counseling. He utilizes the classroom setting in order to teach employability, workplace and various life skills. Additionally, he provides tools for students and parents to use while working with teachers in order to attain academic success. Mr. Sumerel coaches staff on topics pertaining to testing, classroom guidance, student registration and the promotion of academic success. Prior to attaining his current position, he served as a job specialist at Chesnee High School, a customer service manager and senior workforce specialist with the Spartanburg County Upstate Workforce Investment Board, Upstate One-Stop Career Center, a job coordinator for the Achieve Program of the University of South Carolina and a school-to-work coordinator at Boiling Springs High School.

An innate desire to assist young people prompted Mr. Sumerel to become involved in his profession. Assisting adolescents to make important decisions by providing them with up-to-date information and educated advice is the most gratifying aspect of his career. Certified in global career development, he was honored with the Outstanding Specialist Award (2005-2007). Mr. Sumerel received his master's degree in guidance and counseling from Clemson University in 2007. He earned his bachelor of business administration from the University of South Carolina in 1992 and is a member of the South Carolina School Counselor Association, the Southeastern Employment and Training Association, the American School Counselor Association and the American Counseling Association. William Sumerel was named Cambridge Who's Who 2009 "Professional of the Year in Academic Advisement," a title reserved for only a few select individuals demonstrating integrity and excellence in their chosen fields of practice.
