Carlsbad Teachers Invited to Bangladesh to Lead Faculty Development Discussions at Newly Established Asian University for Women
Two Teachers from Pacific Ridge School Selected to Share Insight with International University Faculty
CARLSBAD, CA, July 03, 2009 /High School PR News/ -- On July 4, 2009, Amy Wasserman and Todd Burckin will embark on a two-week trip to participate in the Asian University for Women (AUW) faculty development program. Wasserman and Burckin, both teachers at Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad, were invited by the new Bangladesh-based university to contribute their insights and share ideas to enrich the faculty training curriculum, based on their experiences at Pacific Ridge School.
"Todd and I feel honored to be involved in the AUW's faculty development program," said Pacific Ridge School math teacher Amy Wasserman. "We have been asked to lead discussions and activities on a number of topics, including starting a school, creating a school ethos of responsibility, implementing active teaching methods and resolving conflicts. We will also participate alongside the university's new faculty in their opening activities, with the goal of relaying experiences and insights gained in Pacific Ridge School's first years."
AUW prepares women of high ability and potential to meet society's challenges and effect positive change through an innovative and rigorous curriculum that encompasses liberal arts, sciences, professional training, and the development of thoughtful and ethical leaders. In March 2008, AUW opened its Access Academy, a year-long, pre-collegiate bridge program, designed to ensure that promising students have an opportunity to acquire the requisite preparation for a rigorous university education. The Access Academy currently houses 129 students from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka who will matriculate to the new university in September 2009.
