In Vanuatu A 12 Year Old Girl Receives The First High School Education Grant From YouMe Support Foundation.

Young girl gets the first high school education grant from YouMe Support Foundation, Vanuatu. Without this she would be unable to go to high school.

PORT VILA, VANUATU, January 31, 2009 /High School PR News/ -- Twelve year old Maimona, is the first student to receive a high school education grant from YouMe Support Foundation, in Vanuatu. Maimona is the third child in a four child family.

As there is no free education system in Vanuatu only 18% of students get the opportunity to go to high school. Maimona's seventeen year old sister now sits at home, with no qualifications and no prospect of being able to get a job. Her family was unable to raise the funds to put her through high school.

Maimona's family have managed to gather together enough money to educate the only boy in the family. He dreams of becoming a pilot one day.

Maimona is a bright and high achieving student, but without receiving assistance from charities like YouMe Support Foundation and Child Trust, Maimona would be compelled into joining her older sister at home. Many families living in Vanuatu, a tropical island archipelago, hidden away in the North West corner of the South Pacific, exist on under $1 a day.

Villagers from the far northern area of Vanuatu tried to send live coconut crabs to Port Vila, the capital. They were trying to raise the funds to send their children to school. Only one airline services the area and they refused to allow the coconut crabs on board, even though the villagers had the funds to pay the freight. The airline said the live crabs posed a danger, as they were not sufficiently secured.

A lot of parents in Vanuatu are aware of the need to educate their children, but they find the school fees an ongoing struggle.

YouMe Support Foundation plans to put additional children each year, through an ongoing high school education grant program, working alongside local schools and the education department.
